Thurs 4/21 -  We got up early and went over to the start of the TT to pass out some Lance fans before heading back to our tent today. The crowd gathered around the Discovery Team bus, as expected, to watch Lance and the guys warm-up. We lined the start area with Lance fans, as well as the crowd around the bus. Lance arrived and greeted the crowd, taking several minutes to sign jerseys, books, pictures and the Lance fans we had just passed out, before ducking into the bus. Chechu came out to see us before warming up. We have gotten to be good friends with his sister during the past four years when following the Tour de France to support Lance. On our way out we also ran into our friends Jenn and Angie – the Podium Girls. As we were making our way back to our wristbandmobile, we had to stop and chuckle at one of the smaller teams, LPR, as they were tucked into the back of their van to try and stay dry. No big Discovery Bus for these guys. They were taking it all in good spirits as they had Angie jump up in the van with them for a picture.

We scooted back over to the Expo and were immediately covered up with people registering for the Lance signed Sports Illustrated and giving LAF donations for t-shirts and prints as we continued to pass out LAF materials. Angie and I had a little competition going on with the shirts. We each designed a shirt and were seeing whose were in higher demand. I confess, she won and has already sold out, but we were able to get more shipped for Saturday & Sunday.

The rain did slow things down just a bit in the morning, but it cleared up after the race ended and we had another rush before we closed down for the day. As we were packing up we heard a horrible crash. It turns out a catering truck was trying to leave and knocked down the overhead truss that was holding the race time clock. It was a mess and there was a bit of a panic to start repairs to be ready for tomorrow.

No panic for us as we had a short day and head to Dahlonega for tomorrows finish. At least the rain has moved on.

Best line of the day – a young boy asked Angie if she was Mrs. Armstrong.
