Wed 4/20 - Another day in paradise at the 10 X 10. Yes,
we’re spending a week’s vacation under a 10 X 10 tent in 5 different cites in
Georgia – what could be better? At least we’ll get two nights in the same hotel as the TdG finishes in Rome and runs tomorrow’s TT here. Today was another incredibly busy day at the Live Healthy Georgia Expo as we continue to pass out LiveSTRONG/LAF materials and hopefully recruit some new Peloton Project members. It’s pretty amazing how many people we’ve talked to from different states, and countries - Oregon, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, Louisiana, Texas, New York, Virginia, Michigan, Canada & the UK. Seems everyone wants to see Lance race one more time here in the US. I’m sure Lance will be very happy to see the donations coming in to support survivorship as well. Today I was surprised to meet a long time internet friend, Chuck Sorenson, from an online group that I participate in, Cyclists Combating Cancer. The CCC is a support group for people around the world with various types and stages of cancer that also have an interest in cycling. I also met several current Peloton Project members, including Chris Hardiman. The first time I met Chris was at last year’s TdG. At the time he was sporting no hair and a mask to prevent infections from his cancer treatment. This year he looks great--sure was nice to see him doing well! The Tour de Georgia folks have been incredibly
helpful and everything is running smoothly from our point of view. Angie
and I were very happy to see our friend Brock, in charge of the Expo area again
this year. This is a huge Expo with hundreds of potential daily problems and he
does a great job of keeping everything handled and doing it with a smile!
The race rolled in this afternoon and completed several circuits before the final sprint. Lance finished third. Last year he won the sprint finish here, but he was probably in better shape earlier last year and he had big George leading him to the line. Still a good day. We’ll be back out tomorrow, so bring you’re sunscreen if your coming to join us because it has been quite toasty! You might even need to come by and get a Lance Fan from us, or at least to say hi!
