The drive from Geneva took us a couple of hours, but the scenery of driving through the Alps is quite stunning. Maybe if you live here you get used to it, but there's nothing like it back home.
We drove until traffic started to build then pulled off and parked about 16K from the climb. This gives us the advantage of getting away quickly and staying out of the huge traffic jams, typical after the stage finish, especially on a mountaintop finish. We rode up to about 4.5K from the top and found a nice open place to hang our LiveStrong banners, which is the real reason we come. We got setup and immediately started getting Go Lance & LiveStrong cheers. Keith and his daughter Jasmin from Boston, stopped by to chat as they rode up. They're going to try and meet us in Paris for the finish.
When someone yelled, "Hey anybody seen a bike race around here?" we turned to see one of our best friends from the LAF, Chris Brewer. Many people know him as CB or Fresh Brew from his cycling updates over the years. The riders were on us soon and Alberto attacked the leaders just below us. He was really flying when he passed us.
Andy Schleck was close behind him.
And Kloden and Lance were a few seconds further back.
Our day was pretty much done at this point so we packed up and rode, really coasted, back down the mountain to our car. Tomorrow is a rest day for the Tour, but Angie is catching a flight to Amstendam to meet her buddy Claire to go to the U-2 concert, then fly back Tues morning as we return to following the Tour. We'll keep posting some pics and updates along the way. Thanks for checking in. |
